Why Radiofrequency Microneedling?

When it comes to sub-dermal renewal and/or sculpting, each person’s needs are unique. This is why a sophisticated procedure like Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling is designed to be versatile. Whether your areas of concern are on your face, jawline, abdomen, buttocks, or elsewhere, RF Microneedling can help to address the following concerns:

  • Wrinkles

  • Sagging or loose skin

  • Acne and other scarring

  • Stretch marks 3

  • Rough/textured skin

  • Discolouration

Preparing for your Treatment: At Medisthetics Wellness & Laser Clinic, as with many of our in-clinic treatments, we apply a numbing cream to the area. The RF Microneedling procedure itself is just about as hassle-free as can be. Here are a few helpful tips to consider before your visit to our clinic:

  • It is best to refrain from your retinol-based skin care creams for one week prior to treatment.

  • For best results, ensure you are healthy and well-hydrated both before and after the procedure. This is because the procedure creates micro wounds within the skin, making use of the skin’s natural healing processes.

  • At your consultation, advise your practitioner if you have any of the following skin conditions: Rosacea, active acne or other inflammatory conditions, open wounds or lesions, a diagnosis of Herpes Simplex, metal allergies, sunburned skin or skin that has undergone excessive sun exposure for up to 2 weeks prior, or skin that is still healing from Dermabrasion, a deep clinical peel, or a surgical procedure for up to 3 months prior.

How Does RF Microneedling Work?

Operating on the skin’s sub-dermal level, RF Microneedling combines the power of both Radiofrequency and Microneedling to achieve deep fractionated remodelling of the skin. While Microneedling works by creating slight, controlled micro-injuries to the skin to stimulate increased collagen production, the Radiofrequency component of the procedure makes use of low-energy radiation to heat the deep layer of the skin, “dermis”. This heat stimulates the 4 productions of collagen and elastin. Used in combination, the micro-wounds produced in the skin by the Microneedling device administer Radiofrequent waves deep into the tissue, remodelling the skin for a firmer, smoother, more youthful appearance.

When used in areas where the subcutaneous fat of the skin causes sagging (i.e. in the jowls, the back of the arms, the bra bulges, etc.), the procedure can selectively target “adipose tissue” A.K.A. fat tissue.

Results You Can Expect Following your treatment and as the skin heals, visible results can be seen within a few days. That said, even once the surface skin has healed, the skin beneath the surface may still be regenerating. We advise that around the three-week mark (extending until up to three months following treatment) is when more noticeable results will begin to show.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

In most cases, treatments are best done in series and typically, 2-3 treatments will be required to see desired results. If multiple treatments are recommended, they are spaced around 4-5 weeks apart, to ensure optimal healing between session.

Results You Can Expect

When done by a capable professional, RF Microneedling can do the following:

  • Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles

  • Tighten loose skin

  • Smoothen out a rough skin texture

  • Improve the appearance of acne scarring

  • Contour and remodel fat on the face and body in a non-surgical way

Visible results can be seen within a few days.  But as with all procedures, there is a waiting time before you can see the full results. For the RF Microneedling procedure, the three-week mark will show you far more noticeable results but improvements can continue up to three months after the treatment.

In most cases, 2 – 3 treatments will be required to see the desired results. If multiple treatments are recommended, they are spaced around 4 – 5 weeks apart.

Aftercare and Recovery

Because RF Microneedling is only minimally invasive, there is no real downtime with this procedure. However, depending on the extent of your treatment, you may be advised to wait for a few hours before washing the treated area(s) with water. You will be red, a bit swollen, and itchy (much like a sunburn) leaving our clinic, but this typically subsides drastically overnight and 5 most effects are resolved in the days following. Most activities can be resumed shortly afterwards, but the golden rule is to avoid direct sunlight in the weeks following your treatment. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30-50 SPF is a must.

The first 72 hours post-treatment are ideal for targeted, medical-grade skincare to penetrate the healing skin. While your aftercare regimen will be discussed in consult and at your appointment, we generally advise the use of products containing the following:

  • 3 Growth factors

  • Peptides

  • Vitamin C

  • Retinol

  • Hyaluronic acid

  • CO2 Lift Pro Carboxy Mask
