Youthful without the Downtime!

What Is IPL & What is it Best Suited For?

This treatment, also commonly referred to as the "Photofacial" involves the conversion of energy from Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) into controlled heat that is applied directly into the treated areas of the skin. This heat promotes the formation of both collagen and elastin, which tighten the skin, reduce broken blood vessels and skin pigmentation, and (typically after a series of treatments), improves overall skin tone, appearance, and texture.

IPL is recommended for people who spend much time under direct sun exposition. IPL provides a cosmetic reduction of sun-caused aging and damage and skin redness. In addition, this treatment is safe to use even in sensitive areas, like the face, neck, hands, back and chest.

IPL for Removal of Red and Brown Spots

One of the greatest benefits of high-energy pulsing lasers like our IPL laser is that they can safely and effectively remove many unwanted brown and red spots on your skin. Have lingering liver spots, age spots, sun spots, broken capillaries, birthmarks, and angiomas (red spots) that you thought you were stuck with forever? Say goodbye to them forever and hello to a more even skin tone and texture!

What to Expect During & Following Your Treatment

Typically, the actual IPL treatment takes as little as 15 minutes to 1 hour, dependent on the size, colour, depth, and number of the spots targeted. It's often referred to as a "lunchtime treatment" for this very reason!

Most treatments do not require any anesthetic, and all are done on an outpatient basis. Red spots can usually be treated in one to two visits. Brown spots, on the other hand, may require two to three visits. Broken capillaries or red-coloured scars may need multiple treatments. Your practitioner will make recommendations at your consultation based on your desired outcome.

Most patients can resume their normal routine immediately following treatment, while minimizing strenuous physical activity for the rest of the day. Redness of the skin (remember, it is a light procedure) subsides for most patients within 24 hours.

Rosacea: A Great Match for IPL

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition which expresses itself in redness on the face and sometimes on the neck and chest. Unfortunately, the exact cause of Rosacea is presently unknown leaving the many affected by it uncertain as to the cause of their condition.

While the cause is unknown, the upside is that Rosacea can be treated; it is not something you simply have to "live with". IPL effectively targets and treats the redness caused by Rosacea by using controlled light in specific wavelengths. These specific wavelengths alleviate the visible blood vessels of the skin which cause intense blushing or flushing, inflammation, redness, pimples, and uneven skin tone. What's even better? IPL offers a gentle, long-lasting solution for those suffering from Rosacea by providing a gradual and natural improvement to the skin’s appearance. It not only manages your existing rosiness; it keeps it at bay, too!

How Will IPL Treat Your Rosacea?

The IPL procedure targets facial superficial vessels, causing them to shrink and be reabsorbed farther from the skin's surface. As a result, facial redness is dramatically decreased or completely eliminated. The vascular components of Rosacea can vary from flushing to "telangiectasia", or spider veins, and can have different densities and depths. IPL works to treat redness in the immediate short term while simultaneously triggering "neocollagenesis" - the formation of new collagen, similarly experienced in wound repair and recovery. In the days following your treatment, facial redness will subside and this increased stimulation of new collagen will limit the recurrence of the condition. Talk about a win-win!
